Sequim Community Orchestra seeks interested members. There is no audition, one needs to play an orchestrial instrument, read music, and be interested in having fun playing orchestrial music. Tuition is $20/month.
Although I wanted to play trumpet, I played bartone in seventh grade while I was wearing braces on my teeth. The next two years I played trumpet in the junior high orchestra and French horn in the band. Moving to high school, I played horn in concert band and trumpet when I marched with the band. The last two years of high school I played trumpet more often than horn.
Forty-seven years later I bought an inexpensive pocket trumpet to see if I still could/still really wanted to play again. Both answers were yes. About a year later I joined the Evergreen Community Orchestra and the Marysville City Band, playing a much better trumpet in both. Following a move to the Olympic peninsula I joined the Port Townsend Summer Band, the Sequim City Band, and the Sequim Community Orchestra. During the time of covid, I rejoined the Evergreen Community Orchestra for live virtual rehearsals and two recorded live virtual concerts. I also purchased a used F horn and began practicing the instrument I had missed so much. In August of 2022 I decided to focus on the horn and have since played in the horn section of the PT Summer Band, Sequim City Band, and one concert with the Port Townsend Symphony Orchestra. I am very happy to be back with SCO playing whichever instrument best fits the need of the orchestra.
